Dining with Allergies, Intolerances and Special Dietary Needs

Campus Dining is committed to serving all diners and working to provide information and assistance to students with food allergies, intolerances and specific diets. We use dietary restriction labeling on all of our menus, both online and in all dining locations.

If you have a food allergy or intolerance, be sure to:

  • Look for a staff member wearing a purple allergen resource lanyard

  • Inform a server of your allergy

  • Ask about recipes and ingredients

  • Read food labels

  • When in doubt, avoid the food in question

Nutrition Consultations

Students can schedule a private consultation with our executive chef or director of nutrition to go over any questions about recipes and ingredients. A consultation may include a discussion on nutrition, allergens, potential cross contamination issues and a tour of the dining locations to learn how to safely navigate dining, including cues to look for and how to identify managers and supervisors in each unit.

Students with these concerns can also consult a staff member wearing a purple allergen resource lanyard, which means they are knowledgeable about the menu being served that day.

Schedule a Nutrition Consultation

Schedule a nutrition consultation with Farrah Reidt, our Director of Nutrition at https://meet.boomerangapp.com/reidtfm.appstate.edu/nutritionconsult    -OR-     email reidtfm@appstate.edu , or call (828)-262-7928 . We look forward to meeting with you!

Dietary Restriction Labeling

Our menus include dietary restriction labeling in all of our dining locations. Visit our online NutriSlice menus to explore all access dining options at https://diningappstate.nutrislice.com with all top nine food allergen icons as well as lifestyle icons available for review. Retail venues currently label food items as below. Please discuss any food allergies with staff prior to ordering.

(GF) Gluten Friendly

(N) Contains Nuts

(V+) Vegan

(V) Vegetarian

(L) Locally Sourced

For guests who need to avoid gluten or dairy, we have a worry-free station at each dining hall. It has a separate fridge stocked with dairy-free food and gluten-friendly (made without gluten) items, plus a separate toaster to prevent cross-contact.

Campus Dining does not use tree nuts or peanuts in any of our dining hall kitchens or serveries.  App Bakery does use peanuts and tree nuts in its kitchen.

Allergy and Nutrition Disclaimer

Campus Dining makes every attempt to identify ingredients that may cause allergic reactions for those with food allergies. Every effort is made to train our food production staff on the severity of food allergies. There is always a risk of cross-contact. There is also a possibility that manufacturers of the commercial foods we use could change the formulation or substitute at any time, without notice. In addition, Campus Dining partners with several local vendors who prepare food in off-site kitchens. Customers concerned with food allergies need to be aware of this risk. We cannot guarantee the absence of cross-contact. All foods in the dining hall are prepared in an institutional cooking environment that could involve accidental cross-contact with the foods you may be allergic to. Students with life-threatening food allergies who may need medication, should carry their own epinephrine. Campus Dining staff is not trained to administer epinephrine injections and cannot provide them.
