App State Executive Sous Chef to compete in regional challenge

Help us cheer on App State Executive Sous Chef John Gamradt as he competes today in the 2023 National Association of College and University Food Services (NACUFS) Culinary Challenge for the southern region. Chefs from collegiate dining programs across the southern region have committed to this great opportunity as they test their culinary distinction among peers. NACUFS hosts this annual challenge to drive excellence in dining while benefiting student communities across campuses.

For the 2023 competition, hosted in Mobile, Alabama, each competitor will be provided with two one-pound pork tenderloins, one pound of ground pork and half a pound of slab smoked bacon. They must use all three types of pork to build a nutritionally balanced plate that includes starch, vegetables and sauce — one that will impress even the most discerning judge.

Elizabeth Riede, Executive Director of Campus Dining at App State, said, “We are excited for John to present his culinary creations in this regional challenge. We are so proud of his accomplishments already and can’t wait to celebrate the results!”
