Campus Dining Carryout Procedures

Carryout and ReusePass

At Campus Dining, we encourage you to dine in. It builds community, reduces food waste, and supports our sustainability goals. But we also know that sometimes you just need to grab food and go. That’s where ReusePass comes in.

What is ReusePass?

ReusePass is our reusable to-go container system that reduces waste by keeping single-use containers out of landfills. It works just like checking out a library book:

  • Each user and container has a unique QR code

  • A dining operator scans both codes when you check out a container

  • That scan starts your rental window

  • Containers have a due date that you can track in your ReusePass account

  • Use your mobile number to log in, see return bin locations, and monitor your positive environmental impact

Carryout Options

All Access Locations

You can carry out meals from any All Access dining hall using a reusable ReusePass container.

How it works:

  1. Before you swipe in, download ReusePass and tell the cashier you’d like to carry out.

  2. You’ll receive a reusable carryout container.

  3. Fill your container (the lid must close) and take one piece of fruit if you’d like.

  4. Carryout diners may not eat inside the dining hall.

  5. After carrying out, you won’t be able to swipe into any All Access dining hall or use Meal Exchanges again for 30 minutes.

  • During this time, you’re welcome to visit retail venues, markets, coffee shops, food trucks, and vending with Dining Dollars or other payment methods.

Note on fees:
If you request a compostable container, a small fee will be charged to your Dining Dollars when funds are available. If you prefer to use Campus Cash or a credit card, let the cashier know before you swipe. (Cash is not accepted.)

Retail Venues

Retail venues use compostable containers for carryout.
If you need one, just let the server know.

  • Each compostable container costs 50 cents.

  • Fees are charged to Dining Dollars first; you may request Campus Cash or credit card instead. (Cash is not accepted.)

Personal Containers

For safety reasons, personal carryout containers are not allowed.
North Carolina’s Food Code ( Section 3-304.17) requires containers to be cleaned and sanitized in a commercial kitchen before reuse. Refillable beverage cups, however, are permitted.
