Campus Dining

As the Census Date approaches, there are a few key things we would like for you to know:

• AppCard Tap Function Update

  • After Aug. 30,  the WAVE readers in All Access dining halls will no longer accept "taps" from AppCards. Students may swipe their AppCard at the Greeter's entrance or use a hand swipe at the WAVE reader.

  • Don’t worry—your tap still works for:

    • Building access

    • Paying at retail dining locations including vending machines

• Meal Plan Changes

  • If you want to change your meal plan, you must submit the request by Aug. 30, 2024.  

  • After this date, no meal plan change requests will be accepted for the Fall 2024 semester.

• Dining Passport Deadline

  • Make sure you’ve completed your Dining Passport and turned it in at the entrance of River Street Cafe by Aug. 30 to earn $15 FREE Dining Dollars.

Chef Keith Rhodes will be on Appalachian State University's Boone campus April 22 and 23 as part of a chef takeover event in Central Dining Hall’s Rivers Street Cafe. He will take over the cafe’s homestyle station with a Gullah-inspired lunch menu. 

 

Rhodes, an Eastern North Carolina native, is the owner of Catch Restaurant in Wilmington, which features modern seafood cuisine. He also owns Catch the Food Truck, Tackle Box Kitchen at the University of North Carolina Wilmington and Tackle Box Kitchen Food Trailer. 

 

He is a two-time semifinalist for the “Best Chef Southeast” James Beard Award, and was a “chef-testant” on season nine of Bravo’s Top Chef. Catch was named among USA Today’s 47 Restaurants of the Year for 2024, and Rhodes and his restaurants have also been recognized and featured by Garden & Gun, Our State, EncoreMagazine, the North Carolina Travel Industry Association, the North Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Association and NC Goodness Grows. 

 

Rhodes is known for supporting local farmers and fishermen and for sharing his cooking knowledge and skills with young cooks. 

 

App State Executive Chef Jules Bott said he is excited to have Chef Rhodes join the team for a few days. 

 

“Students will enjoy Chef Rhodes’ amazing, Gullah-inspired lunches on our homestyle station and our kitchen team will enjoy three days of training and inspiration,” said Bott.

It can be a stressful time of year for many in our community! We hope you will take some time to stay well and DeStress with us. Enjoy some calming coloring books, bracelet beading and mindful music at Park Place, peaceful puzzles at upper central in Roess Dining Hall, and Crossroads will have creative coloring too! We will be serving a Traditional Thanksgiving menu November 16, 2022 and hope you will join us. Seasonal favorites include apple-cider brined turkey, gravy, cornbread stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and sweet potato and green bean casseroles. Stuffed acorn squash, yeast rolls and pumpkin pie add the final flavors to this delicious meal that celebrates our App State community. Bring your staff, your friends and your family and enjoy this AYCE feast. We will serve an equally-delicious substitute if menu items become unavailable. Lunch is served 11 a.m. until 2:30 pm; dinner will be served 4:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. Please note we offer carryout only from 9 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. 

Rivers Street Cafe accepts meal swipes, dining dollars, campus cash, visa, mastercard and discover payment options, cash is not accepted at this time. We are happy to offer everyday door prices to our faculty, staff and community members not enrolled in a meal plan. Breakfast: $8, Lunch: $10.50 & Dinner: $12.25 for all-you-care-to-eat. This event will be exclusive to Rivers Street Cafe November 16, 2022 as supply lasts. We hope to see our students, faculty and staff enjoy this comforting meal together as we inch closer to the end of this semester.
